WELCOME TO THE NATIONAL KITE & BALLOON FESTIVAL The National Kite & Balloon Festival is set in the newly developed grounds of East Park, Hull The Event is organised by D.P.R. EVENTS UK ![]() East Park has been given a Green Flag Award, the national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales. Months of building work is now complete and the wraps have come off a 120-acre park that has been brought firmly into the 21st century. More than £10.3 million has been spent in what is one of the largest projects of its kind in Britain. Hull City Council led the project, and much of the cost was covered by Heritage Lottery Funding. ![]() Organisers are supporting two charities at the Kite & Balloon Festival. The charities are the Noddy Appeal & CASH for KIDS The arc Noddy Appeal was launched by the Arthritis
Research Campaign (arc), a national medical research charity, in
2005 to raise money to fund a children’s
arthritis research programme. One child in
every 1,000 in the UK suffers from children’s
arthritis (also known as Juvenile Idiopathic
Arthritis, JIA). That’s almost as common
as childhood diabetes! ![]() ![]() Cash for Kids is the new name for ‘For the Kids’ and the good news is that even more money will now be winging its way into our charity funds here in East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire. We’ve joined up with 19 other radio station charities across the UK, under the ‘Cash for Kids’ banner, in a bid to increase our funding for local communities by nearly £2.5 million this year! An additional benefit is the news that Sir Tom Hunter has given his backing to the new group name and has pledged £4 million over the next ten years. The cash will be used to underwrite 50% of the running costs for the charities including this one here in East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire which raised nearly £1,500 in 2007/08 to help sick and underprivileged local children. |
